SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 608
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Xandria Barkwell, who has completed the requirements
  for earning a Girl Scout Gold Award; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award
  that can be earned by girls between the ages of 14 and 18; only a
  few Girl Scouts attain this distinguished honor; and
 
         WHEREAS, Girl Scouts develop leadership and organizational
  skills through the process of earning a Gold Award, and their
  commitment to the betterment of their community forms the basis
  for a lifetime of active citizenship; and
 
         WHEREAS, Xandria has shown leadership by designing and
  implementing a service project that will be of lasting benefit to
  her community; and
 
         WHEREAS, She worked with the Dallas Fire Department to help
  raise awareness of the importance of smoke detectors; she gave
  presentations to numerous groups, which led to the donation of
  more than 350 smoke detectors for people whose homes did not have
  them; and
 
         WHEREAS, In receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award, Xandria
  has brought great honor to herself, her family, her council, and
  her community; she is truly a shining example to the young people
  of this state; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Xandria Barkwell on earning the Girl
  Scout Gold Award and congratulate her on this outstanding
  accomplishment; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
