SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 615
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the 2015 Ride 2 Recovery Texas Challenge; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Ride 2 Recovery Program was established as a |
|
|
means to assist in the rehabilitation of America's wounded and |
|
|
disabled veterans; participants in this year's Texas Challenge, |
|
|
including more than 200 injured veterans, are riding traditional |
|
|
and tandem bicycles, recumbent cycles, hand cycles, and a variety |
|
|
of other adaptive bikes on a weeklong 490-mile journey from |
|
|
Houston to Fort Worth; the route goes through Central Texas and |
|
|
includes overnight stops in College Station, Georgetown, Fort |
|
|
Hood, Waco, and Cleburne; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Challenge is followed by the one-day |
|
|
Clay Hunt Honor Ride, a noncompetitive fund-raising ride open to |
|
|
injured veterans and the general public; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Ride 2 Recovery Texas Challenge is sponsored |
|
|
by UnitedHealthcare; this outstanding event offers an |
|
|
opportunity for the public to show its support and appreciation |
|
|
for those who have placed their lives on the line in defense of |
|
|
our nation's security and ideals; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Ride 2 Recovery Texas Challenge plays an |
|
|
important role in restoring hope and purpose to the men and women |
|
|
who have been injured in the line of duty; the physical and mental |
|
|
effort and training required for cycling has proven to be |
|
|
invaluable as a healing therapeutic tool; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Participants in the ride have set challenging |
|
|
goals for themselves and worked hard to attain them; they also |
|
|
play an important role in motivating their fellow riders to |
|
|
persevere in all aspects of their rehabilitation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Ride 2 Recovery Texas Challenge is truly |
|
|
deserving of special recognition for the profound impact it is |
|
|
having on the lives of our nation's wounded veterans; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend all those associated with the Ride 2 |
|
|
Recovery Texas Challenge on their commitment to ensuring that our |
|
|
nation's veterans are able to return to their lives as fully as |
|
|
possible; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this exemplary event. |
