SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 638
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Fredna Ruth West
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Fredna Ruth West, who died September 28,
  2014, at the age of 98; and
         WHEREAS, Fredna West was born on September 14, 1916, in
  Beaumont, to Fred and Mamie Rawlinson; she graduated from
  Beaumont High School before attending Lon Morris College, which
  later named her a Distinguished Alumnus; and
         WHEREAS, She married Raymond "Doc" West in 1936; their
  daughter, Patricia, and their grandchildren and
  great-grandchildren were a source of much pride and joy; and
         WHEREAS, She and her husband were long time leaders in the
  Jacksonville community; they coauthored Jacksonville, Texas
  Centennial Historical Book 1872-1972 and numerous articles
  chronicling the area's history; Mrs. West was also responsible
  for designing and building many of the homes in the Alameda Drive
  neighborhood during the 1950s; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. West was active in her church and in numerous
  community and philanthropic organizations, including the
  Hyperion Club, the Thaddeus Beall Chapter of the Daughters of the
  American Revolution, Utile Dulce, and the Jacksonville Public
  Library; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of grace, strength, and dignity, she gave
  unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
  will not be forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, Fredna West was a devoted wife, mother, and
  grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be
  treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Fredna Ruth West; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Fredna Ruth West.
