SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 673
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the detention officers and jail employees of the Dallas |
|
|
County Sheriff's Department on the occasion of National |
|
|
Correctional Officers and Employees Week, which is being |
|
|
observed May 3 through 9, 2015; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Dallas County Sheriff's Department detention |
|
|
service staff is composed of more than 1,500 licensed officers who |
|
|
work alongside an administrative staff that includes approximately |
|
|
200 clerks in the nation's seventh-largest jail system; detention |
|
|
service workers include jailers, records managers, administrators, |
|
|
caseworkers, and medical providers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These dedicated men and women provide custodial |
|
|
care and control for approximately 6,000 inmates each day at the |
|
|
system's five jail facilities and at its new, state-of-the-art |
|
|
medical and mental health facility; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Approximately 80,000 inmates are booked into |
|
|
Dallas County jail facilities annually, and employees will |
|
|
process more than 100,000 criminal and civil court cases; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The employees of the Dallas County Sheriff's |
|
|
Department have through the years maintained the highest |
|
|
standards of jail operation, and they are truly deserving of |
|
|
special recognition for the vital role they play in the |
|
|
administration of justice; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the detention officers and jail |
|
|
employees of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department on their |
|
|
commitment to public service and extend to them best wishes for a |
|
|
memorable National Correctional Officers and Employees Week; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
