SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 678
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize May of 2015 as Syringomyelia Awareness Month in Texas; |
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Syringomyelia is a chronic disorder of the spinal |
|
cord that occurs when cerebrospinal fluid enters the interior of |
|
the spinal cord and forms a cavity known as a syrinx; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Approximately 40,000 people in the United States |
|
have been diagnosed with Syringomyelia, and many endure chronic |
|
pain from the condition; some patients develop neuropathic pain |
|
syndromes that are difficult to treat; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Although the precise cause of the disorder |
|
remains unknown, scientists at research facilities throughout |
|
the nation continue to study the mechanisms that lead to the |
|
formation of syrinxes; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The American Syringomyelia and Chiari Alliance |
|
Project is a nonprofit organization that is leading the fight |
|
against Syringomyelia, and as more emphasis is placed on |
|
research, improved treatment techniques are expected to become |
|
available for those suffering from the debilitating condition; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby commend all who are working to learn more |
|
about the causes of Syringomyelia and declare May of 2015 as |
|
Syringomyelia Awareness Month in Texas; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
honor of Syringomyelia Awareness Month. |
