SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 684
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Jess T. Hay
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Jess T. Hay, a champion of higher
  education and a leading advocate for mental health services in
  Texas, who died on April 13, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Jess Hay was born on January 22, 1931, in Forney;
  he enriched the lives of all who knew him through his optimism,
  his loyalty, and his valued counsel; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hay served on The University of Texas System
  Board of Regents for 12 years; he also served on the board of
  trustees of his alma mater, Southern Methodist University; and
         WHEREAS, He was a prominent figure in Democratic Party
  politics, and he served on numerous community and statewide
  boards; he worked with his beloved wife, the late Betty Jo Hay, to
  establish the Texas Mental Health Foundation and the Betty Jo Hay
  Distinguished Chair of Mental Health at The University of Texas
  Southwestern Medical Center; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hay shared more than 53 years of
  marriage, and they were blessed with two daughters, three
  grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Noted for his integrity and his exceptional
  accomplishments, he was respected and beloved by many, and his
  legacy will live on in the hearts of innumerable citizens for
  decades to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Jess T. Hay; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Jess T. Hay.
