SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 737
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Every day, peace officers devote themselves to |
|
|
the security and well-being of the people they serve, and |
|
|
Operation Blue Shield is committed to supporting them in their |
|
|
vital mission; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Operation Blue Shield is a community-centric |
|
|
initiative designed to promote better understanding and improved |
|
|
relations between citizens and law enforcement; the campaign |
|
|
encourages open and constructive dialogue between police and the |
|
|
wider community and recognizes the importance of acknowledging |
|
|
diverse backgrounds and perspectives; toward that end, it raises |
|
|
funds to underwrite public safety endeavors and to help meet the |
|
|
evolving resource needs of peace officers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This innovative program was founded by |
|
|
philanthropist Toni Brinker Pickens and benefits from the |
|
|
involvement of the Dallas-based organization Economic Partners |
|
|
Investing in Communities, or EPIC; like other EPIC projects, |
|
|
Operation Blue Shield is backed by a broad range of city leaders, |
|
|
civic and charitable organizations, and concerned residents; |
|
|
these participants are focusing attention on the message that |
|
|
"We're All In This Together" and are urging Texans to "Go All In" |
|
|
to help forge stronger ties between police and the public; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Safe neighborhoods are the foundation of a stable |
|
|
and prosperous society, and Operation Blue Shield represents a |
|
|
promising new effort to build greater trust between citizens and |
|
|
the peace officers who protect them; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize the Operation Blue Shield |
|
|
initiative and encourage Texans throughout the state to support |
|
|
this worthwhile program; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
Operation Blue Shield as an expression of esteem from the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
