Floyd Simpson |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Floyd Simpson, who died May 3, 2015, at |
|
the age of 51; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Floyd Simpson was a dedicated peace officer |
|
who devoted his life to making his community a safer and more just |
|
place; his courage, his ability to get people to work together, and |
|
his concern for the rights of all citizens were an inspiration to |
|
all those who were privileged to share in his life; and |
|
WHEREAS, Floyd Simpson was a native of Chicago; he earned a |
|
bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University and a master |
|
of business administration degree from Amber University; and |
|
WHEREAS, He served with distinction for 25 years as a |
|
member of the Dallas Police Department; he rose through the ranks |
|
to become assistant chief of police and commander of the city's |
|
patrol bureau and administrative bureau, where he was noted for |
|
his ability to manage contentious issues with sensitivity and |
|
consideration for all points of view; and |
|
WHEREAS, He left Dallas in 2012 to become chief of the Corpus |
|
Christi Police Department; he quickly earned respect in his new |
|
home for his tough stances on crime and aggressive drivers, and he |
|
was beloved by the community due to his compassion and his |
|
wholehearted embrace of the people of the city; and |
|
WHEREAS, Floyd Simpson was an inspiring leader in the field |
|
of law enforcement who brought out the best in others, and he was |
|
held in the highest regard by his colleagues and friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Tanya, enjoyed more than |
|
27 years of marriage together, and his four children were a |
|
source of much pride and joy for him; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a man of strength and integrity who gave |
|
generously to others; he was always ready with a smile, and his |
|
warmth and his wise counsel will not be forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves |
|
behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and |
|
countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Floyd Simpson; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Chief Floyd Simpson. |
