SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 811
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Donald Wood Patrick
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Dr. Donald Wood Patrick, who died April
  25, 2015, at the age of 76; and
         WHEREAS, Donald Patrick was born in San Antonio on August
  28, 1938, along with his twin brother, David; Donald graduated
  from Texas A&I University, and he earned a medical degree from
  Baylor College of Medicine; and
         WHEREAS, He served with distinction as chief of
  neurosurgery at the 24th evacuation hospital in Vietnam, and he
  received a Bronze Star for his exceptional service; and
         WHEREAS, After his military service, he practiced
  neurosurgery in Austin for more than 30 years; during that time,
  he served as chief of staff and as chief of surgery at hospitals
  across the area; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Patrick was instrumental in establishing the
  city's Emergency Medical Services program, and he served several
  times as its director; he was executive director of the Texas
  Medical Board from 2001 through 2008 and served as president of
  the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons; and
         WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, he raised
  quarter horses, built and piloted his own airplane, ran marathons
  and climbed mountains, played the violin, and traveled
  extensively; he placed great importance on lifelong learning,
  andheenteredTheUniversityofTexasSchoolofLawattheageof
 
  55 and later attended the Butler School of Music as a graduate
  student; he was an avid supporter of the Austin Symphony
  Orchestra; and
         WHEREAS, Donald Patrick was beloved by many; a kind and
  gracious man, he was noted for his brilliant intellect, his
  strong principles and his warm sense of humor, and he will long be
  remembered by those who were privileged to share in his life; and
         WHEREAS, He was devoted to his beloved wife of 26 years,
  Carolyn Biebas, and to his children and grandchildren, and he
  leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
  family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Dr. Donald Wood Patrick; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Dr. Donald Wood Patrick.
