SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 831
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
honor the late Nathaniel Williams on the occasion of his 2015 |
|
induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Williams began his career in education |
|
more than half a century ago in Terrell; in 1960, he moved to |
|
Dallas, where he served as a teacher, mentor, and coach at |
|
various elementary and middle schools in the city, and he led |
|
basketball teams at three of his schools to city championships; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Williams went on to become assistant |
|
principal at Pearl C. Anderson Middle School, and he later served |
|
as director of the district's Adult Basic Education Program; he |
|
was active in a number of professional and civic organizations, |
|
notably Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the Boy Scouts of America, |
|
who honored him with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A highly principled man of courage and |
|
compassion, he had a profound impact on the lives of countless |
|
students, and he is truly deserving of special recognition for |
|
his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of the |
|
late Nathaniel Williams as he is inducted into the African |
|
American Educators Hall of Fame; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate. |
