SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 833
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Charlie Mae Smith on the occasion of her 2015 induction
  into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
 
         WHEREAS, Charlie Mae Smith combined her love of reading and
  her commitment to public service to forge a long and fulfilling
  career as a librarian; she earned a bachelor's degree from
  Prairie View A&M University and a master's degree in library
  science from Texas Woman's University; and
 
         WHEREAS, She is the first African American to be a member
  of the Duncanville Public Library Board and to serve as its
  president; a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
  Incorporated, she was named Texas Outstanding Delta; and
 
         WHEREAS, In recognition of her many contributions to her
  community, the Charlie Mae Smith Library Media Center at the Paul
  L. Dunbar Learning Center was named in her honor; in addition,
  she was named an Oliver Wendell Holmes Classical Academy Living
  Legend; she is truly deserving of admiration and respect for her
  many achievements; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Charlie Mae Smith on her commitment
  to excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on
  her 2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of
  Fame; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
