SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 835
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize Betty L. Perkins on the occasion of her 2015 induction |
|
into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Betty Perkins is a veteran educator who began her |
|
career in the Dallas Independent School District as a fifth-grade |
|
teacher at J. N. Ervin Elementary School in 1958; she served the |
|
district for 42 years until her retirement in 2001; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She had a passion for helping students learn to |
|
read and for helping colleagues become skillful reading |
|
instructors; she served as a staff development specialist and |
|
coordinator of the Success in Reading program at Paul L. Dunbar |
|
Learning Center, and she later joined the staff at Sequoyah |
|
Learning Center, where she served as dean of instruction and as |
|
principal; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Betty Perkins used her |
|
professional expertise to support countless teachers in their |
|
educational endeavors; she has been recognized as an Outstanding |
|
Elementary Teacher of America, and it is indeed fitting that she |
|
be honored for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby commend Betty L. Perkins on 42 years of |
|
educational leadership and extend congratulations to her on her |
|
2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; |
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
