SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 835
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Betty L. Perkins on the occasion of her 2015 induction
  into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
 
         WHEREAS, Betty Perkins is a veteran educator who began her
  career in the Dallas Independent School District as a fifth-grade
  teacher at J. N. Ervin Elementary School in 1958; she served the
  district for 42 years until her retirement in 2001; and
 
         WHEREAS, She had a passion for helping students learn to
  read and for helping colleagues become skillful reading
  instructors; she served as a staff development specialist and
  coordinator of the Success in Reading program at Paul L. Dunbar
  Learning Center, and she later joined the staff at Sequoyah
  Learning Center, where she served as dean of instruction and as
  principal; and
 
         WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Betty Perkins used her
  professional expertise to support countless teachers in their
  educational endeavors; she has been recognized as an Outstanding
  Elementary Teacher of America, and it is indeed fitting that she
  be honored for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Betty L. Perkins on 42 years of
  educational leadership and extend congratulations to her on her
  2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame;
  and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
