SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 836
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Verna George Brown Mitchell on the occasion of her 2015
  induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
 
         WHEREAS, Verna Mitchell dedicated 35 years of service to
  the Dallas Independent School District as a teacher, a principal,
  and an administrator; and
 
         WHEREAS, She served in seven of the district's schools, and
  she was the first principal at Thomas Tolbert Elementary School,
  where she implemented a program designated as a national site for
  Lights On After School; and
 
         WHEREAS, As a district administrator, she supported
  operations in the East Oak Cliff subdistrict, and she was the
  program manager of the Office of Discipline and Student
  Services; and
 
         WHEREAS, An exemplary leader in the field of education,
  Verna was selected out of 300 applicants to attend the Principal
  Institute at Harvard University; she has devoted her career to
  the education of young citizens, and she is indeed deserving of
  recognition for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Verna George Brown Mitchell on her
  commitment to excellence in education and extend congratulations
  to her on her 2015 induction into the African American Educators
  Hall of Fame; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
