SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 837
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Mary E. Lester on the occasion of her 2015 induction
  into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
 
         WHEREAS, A leader in the field of mathematics instruction,
  Mary Lester served as the director of mathematics for the Dallas
  Independent School District from 1974 to 1997; she was the first
  African American to serve as a director in a major school district in
  Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, As the mathematics director, she developed and
  implemented innovative curriculums and computer-based instruction
  programs, introduced computer-programming classes for elementary
  school children, and implemented mathematics competitions that
  offered college scholarships to students; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mary Lester fostered positive and successful
  learning environments that helped equip students throughout the
  district with the tools that are needed for continued academic
  success; she has been a respected and admired educational
  administrator, and it is truly fitting that she be recognized for
  her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Mary E. Lester on her commitment to
  excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on her
  2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame;
  and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
