SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 840
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize John Freeman Hightower on the occasion of his 2015
  induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
 
         WHEREAS, During his long career, John Hightower served as
  an inspiration to students and fellow educators with his vision,
  his wise counsel, his scholarly guidance, and his irrepressible
  positive attitude; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hightower served with distinction for 50
  years with the Plano Independent School District; he taught
  science and coached at Douglass High School for many years before
  moving into the administrative ranks; he then served as a
  principal and later as a coordinator of ethnic relations and as
  director of special services; he has been named the recipient of
  the Living Legend award, and in recognition of his exceptional
  service to the district, the John F. Hightower Elementary School
  was named in his honor; and
 
         WHEREAS, John Hightower has had a profound impact on the
  lives of countless young people, and he is truly deserving of
  special recognition for his outstanding contributions to his
  community and his profession; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend John Freeman Hightower on his
  commitment to excellence in education and extend congratulations
  to him on his 2015 induction into the African American Educators
  Hall of Fame; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
