SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 842
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. Marie A. Barree on the occasion of her 2015
  induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
 
         WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished career,
  Dr. Barree has served as an elementary school teacher, a
  mathematics facilitator in the Dallas Independent School
  District, and as an educator in the Catholic Diocese; and
 
         WHEREAS, She began her teaching career in 1948 in Crowell
  at a time when formal education for African Americans often ended
  after the seventh grade; in response to this educational
  shortcoming, she and her husband designed a curriculum and became
  certified to teach at the high school level, and they helped
  countless students complete their high school degrees; she has
  also helped numerous prisoners turn their lives around by helping
  them earn general educational development certification; and
 
         WHEREAS, She has had a profound impact on the lives of her
  students and their families, and it is truly fitting that she
  receive special recognition for her many achievements; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Marie A. Barree on her commitment
  to excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on
  her 2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of
  Fame; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
