SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 911
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Minnie Hawthorne-Ewing
         WHEREAS, The city of Plano lost a greatly admired resident
  with the death of Pastor Minnie Hawthorne-Ewing on May 7, 2015,
  at the age of 69; and
         WHEREAS, The former Minnie Bookman was born on December 30,
  1945, to Iverlee Matthew and Helen Louise Bookman in Amarillo;
  she enjoyed a lasting marriage to Pastor Robert Hawthorne, and
  the couple shared in the joy of raising seven children, Robert,
  Gerald, Tony, Cheryl, Eric, Lynette, and Darius; when
  Mr. Hawthorne passed away unexpectedly, she was fortunate to
  find love again with Nathaniel Ewing, who also preceded her in
  death; and
         WHEREAS, After completing studies to earn a doctor of
  divinity degree, Pastor Hawthorne-Ewing went on to serve as a
  preacher for more than four decades; she founded DayStar
  Deliverance Ministries in Richardson in 1995 with her first
  husband, and she worked to provide congregants with myriad
  opportunities for spiritual growth and community involvement; and
         WHEREAS, In 2008, Pastor Hawthorne-Ewing's daughter Cheryl
  founded Minnie's Food Pantry in Plano, which has served more than
  3.4 million meals to citizens in need; the beloved pastor's
  compassion for others has provided lasting inspiration, and
  countless visitors to the pantry were welcomed and encouraged by
  "Ms. Minnie," as she was affectionately known; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to her family, her faith, and her
  community,MinnieHawthorne-Ewingbrightenedtheworldforall
 
  who knew her, and she will forever hold a treasured place in their
  hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Pastor Minnie
  Hawthorne-Ewing and extend sincere condolences to the members of
  her family:  to her children, Robert Wayne Bennett, Gerald
  Hawthorne, Tony Bennett, Cheryl Jackson and her husband, Artis,
  Eric Hawthorne, Lynette Shofner, and Darius Hawthorne and his
  wife, Chandra; to her 11 grandchildren and 4
  great-grandchildren; to her sister, Vivian Louise Benjamin; and
  to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Minnie Hawthorne-Ewing.
