Morris Schuler Nelson |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
|
|
of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Morris Schuler Nelson, who |
|
|
died December 13, 2013, at the age of 78; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Schuler Nelson was born December 16, 1934, in Waco; |
|
|
he served as a cadet lieutenant colonel in the Reserve Officers' |
|
|
Training Corps at Texas Western College, and he graduated as a |
|
|
distinguished military graduate with a bachelor's degree in mining |
|
|
engineering in 1957; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After college, Mr. Nelson served his country with |
|
|
distinction in active duty for six months and as a reservist for |
|
|
eight years; he began his career in construction with the Austin |
|
|
Road Company, a major highway contractor; he was president of the |
|
|
company, and he retired after 34 years of outstanding service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A well-known leader in his field, he served as a |
|
|
board member and president of the Texas Chapter of the Associated |
|
|
General Contractors of America and the Texas Hot Mix Asphalt |
|
|
Pavement Association; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was a man of spiritual depth and a |
|
|
member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 50 years; he was a member of |
|
|
the board of the Trinity Lutheran Children's Center and chairman |
|
|
of the Endowment Committee; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Schuler Nelson was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
|
grandfather who was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories |
|
|
that will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in |
|
|
his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
|
family of Morris Schuler Nelson; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of Schuler Nelson. |
