SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 955
|
|
|
WHEREAS, National NeighborWorks Week is being celebrated |
|
|
from June 6 to 14, 2015, and this is a fitting occasion to |
|
|
celebrate the work of Avenue Community Development Corporation |
|
|
and its GO Neighborhoods program in Houston's Northside; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Avenue Community Development Corporation is a |
|
|
nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of |
|
|
life of working families and ensuring healthy neighborhoods by |
|
|
building affordable housing in Houston; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A joint project of Avenue Community Development |
|
|
Corporation and the Houston Local Initiatives Support |
|
|
Corporation, GO Neighborhoods is a comprehensive community |
|
|
revitalization program that seeks to reweave the social fabric of |
|
|
the Northside community by providing quality affordable homes, |
|
|
increasing family income, strengthening education, and promoting |
|
|
leadership and civic engagement; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the six-year history of GO Neighborhoods, |
|
|
264 partner organizations have worked with more than 14,390 |
|
|
volunteers to complete 200 new projects, including 254 homes and |
|
|
apartments, leveraging $57 million to improve the livability and |
|
|
vitality of the Northside; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This successful and dynamic initiative has |
|
|
bettered the lives of thousands of residents of the Northside |
|
|
community and helped to ensure Houston's future as a world-class |
|
|
city of healthy, vibrant, and economically diverse |
|
|
neighborhoods; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the GO Neighborhoods project of |
|
|
Avenue Community Development Corporation and extend sincere best |
|
|
wishes to the program's directors, partners, and community |
|
|
volunteers for a memorable and meaningful 2015 National |
|
|
NeighborWorks Week celebration; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the GO Neighborhoods project as an expression of |
|
|
high regard from the Texas Senate. |
