SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 958

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services Mosquito Control Division, which celebrated 50 years of service to the community May 5 through 7 and May 15, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Mosquito Control in Harris County was created in response to an epidemic of Saint Louis Encephalitis that affected the county in 1964; and

WHEREAS, In the ensuing years, the department has remained focused on the control and prevention of mosquito-borne diseases and has strived to handle environmental challenges; in 1995, Mosquito Control became a division of Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services, and since that time, it has become a nationally recognized program for protecting the health of the community; and

WHEREAS, Harris County Mosquito Control works in partnership with universities and health organizations to ensure public health through mosquito and bird surveillance, education, control, research, and technology; and

WHEREAS, The department celebrated this milestone anniversary with events that highlighted five decades of professional service to Harris County residents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend the administration and staff of the Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services Mosquito Control Division for their invaluable work on behalf of area citizens and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the division as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
