SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 970
         WHEREAS, Linda Robles Cardenas is retiring from the San Felipe
  Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District on June 5, 2015,
  concluding a rewarding career in public education that has spanned 35
  years; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Del Rio, Mrs. Cardenas graduated with
  honors from Del Rio High School in 1973 and went on to receive her
  bachelor's degree in education from Angelo State University in
  1977; she returned to her hometown and taught for two years at Lamar
  Elementary before deciding to resume her studies at Angelo State
  and earning a bachelor's degree in business administration; after
  spending two years with an accounting firm in Dallas, she decided
  that her true calling lay in the classroom; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Cardenas was hired as a kindergarten teacher
  at Travis Elementary School in 1982, and during her 17 years
  there, she won the respect and admiration of her colleagues for
  her dedication to helping her students excel; her reputation for
  excellence in her work led to her reassignment to Dr. Lonnie
  Green Elementary in 1999, and two years later, she transferred to
  Buena Vista Elementary, where she has enjoyed teaching for the
  past 14 years; and
         WHEREAS, This talented educator was named the Walmart Teacher
  of the Year in 2005, following her nomination by a principal and a
  parent of one of her students, and the award was accompanied by a
  donation to Buena Vista Elementary; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of her 35 years of teaching, more
  than 700 young Texans have benefited from Mrs. Cardenas's guidance
  and influence, and she takes pride in counting physicians,
  attorneys, engineers, television writers, community activists, and
  fellow educators among those who once passed through her classroom;
  in all her endeavors, she has enjoyed the love and support of her
  husband, Ruben G. Cardenas, and her children, Lauren and Ruben; and
         WHEREAS, Through her outstanding efforts as an educator,
  Linda Cardenas has helped her students develop a foundation for a
  successful future, and she may indeed reflect with satisfaction
  on her achievements as she embarks on her well-deserved
  retirement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Linda Robles Cardenas for her
  service to students of the Felipe Del Rio Consolidated
  Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness and fulfillment in the years to come;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Cardenas as an expression of high regard from
  the Texas Senate.
