SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 973

WHEREAS, The University of Texas at San Antonio men's track and field team achieved great distinction by winning the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the conference meet held May 14-17, 2015, at Kidd Field in El Paso; and

WHEREAS, In third place and trailing the leader, Western Kentucky University, by eight points entering the final day of the competition, the Roadrunners overtook both the Western Kentucky squad and the host team from The University of Texas at El Paso and surged to a seven-point victory to claim their second consecutive Conference USA outdoor title with 165 total points; the triumph continued the school's record of success on the track, as the university has now claimed an indoor or outdoor league crown in each of the past 10 seasons; and

WHEREAS, The Roadrunners were led by All-American Keyunta Hayes, who earned individual titles in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles; teammate Ty Anderson took home a gold medal in the high jump while Jared Tyler won the discus throw event with a season-best throw of 52.46 meters; also contributing crucial points in various events were Andrew Akens, Victor Perez, Levi Jordan, Andris Visitins, Aaron LeJeune, Dionte Robinson, Jurmarcus Shelvin, Jonas Gutierrez, Mike Medrano, Dusan Makevic, Kaylon Sellers, Justin Gerbrecht, Christopher Hall, and Barrett Brock; and

WHEREAS, The team was ably guided by head coach Aaron Fox, and with their conference title, the Roadrunners secured a trip toAustintocompeteintheWestPreliminaryroundofthe2015 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships; and

WHEREAS, Through hard work and an enduring commitment to excellence, the talented University of Texas at San Antonio athletes once again realized their season-long goal of capturing the conference title, and they may indeed take justifiable pride in their outstanding accomplishment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby congratulate The University of Texas at San Antonio men's track and field team on winning the 2015 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship and extend to the team's athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. Menéndez
