Marguerite Marie Labasse Knisely |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
|
of Austin in mourning the loss of Marguerite Marie Labasse |
|
Knisely, who died May 6, 2015, at the age of 93; and |
|
WHEREAS, Marguerite Labasse was born April 1, 1922, in the |
|
rural village of Gentinnes, Belgium, and she moved to the City of |
|
Gembloux as a teenager; and |
|
WHEREAS, She served as an interpreter for American troops |
|
stationed in Gembloux in the final months of World War II, and |
|
during her service, she met and fell in love with Bill Knisely, a |
|
soldier from Michigan; she crossed the Atlantic in 1947, and they |
|
married three days after her arrival; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Knisely actively supported her husband while |
|
he earned his doctoral degree in anatomy at the Medical College |
|
of South Carolina, and she was his partner and confidante as he |
|
pursued a career in academic administration; they were blessed |
|
with five children, and the family moved throughout the United |
|
States as Mr. Knisely took on leadership roles at prominent |
|
universities; they lived in Austin during the 1960s and moved |
|
back to Austin in 1994; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was dedicated to her work as a homemaker and |
|
raised her children with an energetic and loving hand; she was |
|
known for her outstanding cooking and knitting skills, and she |
|
produced innumerable blankets, scarves, and sweaters for her |
|
nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Marguerite Knisely was an independent, intelligent, |
|
and compassionate woman who was devoted to her husband and |
|
children and who remained active throughout her life; she was |
|
beloved by many, and she leaves behind memories that will long be |
|
cherished by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Marguerite Marie Labasse Knisely; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Marguerite Knisely. |
