SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 981
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Marguerite Marie Labasse Knisely
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
  of Austin in mourning the loss of Marguerite Marie Labasse
  Knisely, who died May 6, 2015, at the age of 93; and
         WHEREAS, Marguerite Labasse was born April 1, 1922, in the
  rural village of Gentinnes, Belgium, and she moved to the City of
  Gembloux as a teenager; and
         WHEREAS, She served as an interpreter for American troops
  stationed in Gembloux in the final months of World War II, and
  during her service, she met and fell in love with Bill Knisely, a
  soldier from Michigan; she crossed the Atlantic in 1947, and they
  married three days after her arrival; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Knisely actively supported her husband while
  he earned his doctoral degree in anatomy at the Medical College
  of South Carolina, and she was his partner and confidante as he
  pursued a career in academic administration; they were blessed
  with five children, and the family moved throughout the United
  States as Mr. Knisely took on leadership roles at prominent
  universities; they lived in Austin during the 1960s and moved
  back to Austin in 1994; and
         WHEREAS, She was dedicated to her work as a homemaker and
  raised her children with an energetic and loving hand; she was
  known for her outstanding cooking and knitting skills, and she
  produced innumerable blankets, scarves, and sweaters for her
  nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Marguerite Knisely was an independent, intelligent,
  and compassionate woman who was devoted to her husband and
  children and who remained active throughout her life; she was
  beloved by many, and she leaves behind memories that will long be
  cherished by all who were privileged to share in her life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Marguerite Marie Labasse Knisely; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Marguerite Knisely.
