SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1004
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Rick Diaz, who is retiring from KRGV-TV Channel 5 in |
|
|
the Rio Grande Valley after nearly 50 years in broadcast |
|
|
journalism; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Diaz became the news director at KRGV in 1976; |
|
|
he had formerly served as a photographer, a reporter, and an |
|
|
anchor; throughout his exemplary career, he has carried the |
|
|
people of the Valley in his heart, mind, and soul, and he had |
|
|
guided the station with the highest level of integrity; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A truly distinguished leader in his field, he was |
|
|
invited to the White House on several occasions and was twice |
|
|
recognized by President Reagan for the work the television |
|
|
station did in the community; his love for family and the Rio |
|
|
Grande Valley kept him in his home state when he had offers to |
|
|
move to larger markets; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Diaz announced his retirement as news director |
|
|
in 1998, but he was drawn back to the station he loved two years |
|
|
later to serve again as a news anchor; in this role, he also was a |
|
|
mentor and counselor to many young people in the field; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This beloved member of the community has |
|
|
maintained a standard of excellence in broadcast journalism that |
|
|
serves as an example to others, and his presence at KRGV will be |
|
|
greatly missed by his colleagues and by residents throughout the |
|
|
Valley; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Rick Diaz for his exceptional |
|
|
contributions to KRGV-TV Channel 5 and to the people of the Rio |
|
|
Grande Valley and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
