John Dolan Poynor |
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |
|
those saddened by the passing of John Dolan Poynor of Big Lake on |
|
May 17, 2015, at the age of 59; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on June 5, 1955, to D. D. and Darlyne Poynor, |
|
"Buddy" Poynor grew up in Big Lake and graduated from Reagan |
|
County High School in 1973; he attended diesel technician school |
|
in Irving before returning to his hometown to work in the family |
|
business, eventually taking over for his father and successfully |
|
operating D. D. Poynor Construction for many years; at the time |
|
of his death, he served as a county commissioner for Reagan |
|
County and a board member for the Big Lake Economic and |
|
Development Corporation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Poynor enjoyed a rewarding marriage of more |
|
than four decades with his wife, the former Letha Durden, and he |
|
was a devoted father to their children, J. D., Amy, and Whitney; |
|
he later knew the joy of welcoming five grandchildren and two |
|
great-grandchildren into his cherished family; and |
|
WHEREAS, Demonstrating an adventurous spirit, Mr. Poynor |
|
was an avid motorcycle rider and pilot; moreover, he selflessly |
|
and graciously volunteered his time by flying more than 100 |
|
missions for Angel Flight, a nonprofit organization that |
|
provides free air transportation for people with medical travel |
|
needs; a man of faith as well, he was a regular presence at First |
|
Baptist Church of Big Lake; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Kind and generous in nature, Buddy Poynor |
|
exhibited great compassion and concern for individuals in need |
|
and brightened the lives of all those who had the privilege of |
|
knowing him, and they will always carry him close in their |
|
hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of John Dolan |
|
Poynor and extend sincere condolences to the members of his |
|
family: to his wife of 42 years, Letha Poynor; to his children, |
|
J. D. Poynor and his wife, Carrie, Amy Evans and her husband, |
|
Kelly, and Whitney Brandon and her husband, Jacob; to his |
|
parents, D. D. and Darlyne Poynor; to his brother, Joe Poynor and |
|
his wife, Debbie; to his mother-in-law, Shirley Hoffman and her |
|
husband, Cotton; to his grandchildren, Bethany, Makenzie, and |
|
Taylor Poynor, and Alex and Aundrea Evans; to his |
|
great-grandchildren, Kaizley and Jaylynn; to his aunt, Ruth |
|
Franklin; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of John Dolan Poynor. |
