SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1023
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Ramon Galindo, a well-known longtime Austinite, on the
  occasion of his 94th birthday, on May 29, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Ramon Galindo was born May 29, 1921, in San Juan,
  Nuevo Leon, Mexico; after the Mexican Revolution, he and his
  family returned to Austin, where his parents had formerly lived
  for a time; his father worked for Dr. Goodall Wooten and
  eventually opened a tortilla factory on East Sixth Street; Ramon
  attended school through seventh grade and was learning to become
  a tailor when World War II began; and
         WHEREAS, Unable to serve on active duty in the military
  because he was born in Mexico, Ramon Galindo filed citizenship
  papers and served in the National Guard until he was sworn in as a
  citizen in Boston in 1943; he went on to serve in Europe in 1944
  and 1945, and he took part in the Battle of the Bulge and the
  Rhine River Battle; and
         WHEREAS, After the war, he returned to Texas and married
  Pauline Santos in 1946; they raised two daughters together and
  have been blessed with seven grandchildren and 13
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, He opened his business, Galindo the Tailor, in
  downtown Austin in 1948; his many clients along the way included
  Lyndon Johnson and the Texas Longhorn cheerleading squad; he
  retired in 1991; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Galindo turned his
  lifelong love of tricks and sleight of hand into a thriving
  second career as a magician; known to many as the dean of Austin
  magicians, he has received a number of awards for his work and was
  featured on the cover of Genii, The International Conjurors'
  Magazine in 1991; and
         WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of his community,
  Mr. Galindo is noted for his humor and wit, his compassion for
  others, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Ramon Galindo on his many
  achievements and extend best wishes to him on the occasion of his
  94th birthday; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
