LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 28, 2015

TO:
Honorable Abel Herrero, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB92 by White, James (Relating to the definition of an illegal knife.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Penal Code as it relates to the definition of an illegal knife. Under the provisions of the bill, a bowie knife would no longer be considered an illegal knife. This analysis assumes the bill would not result in a significant impact on state correctional agencies.

Local Government Impact

Implementing the provisions of the bill could cause a decrease in the number of offenders remanded to local jails. Changes in costs associated with enforcement, prosecution, and confinement are not anticipated to have a significant fiscal impact. Changes in revenue from fines imposed and collected are not anticipated to have a significant fiscal impact.
