IN RE:
HB512 by Moody (Relating to waiver of immunity in certain employment discrimination actions in connection with a workers' compensation claim.), As Engrossed
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Labor Code relating to waiver of immunity in certain employment discrimination actions in connection with a workers' compensation claim. The bill would take effect September 1, 2015.
Based on the analysis of the Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Public Safety, it is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
Local Government Impact
According the Texas Association of Counties, fiscal impact to counties is not anticipated to be significant because the number of awards statewide is anticipated to be relatively small. However, while single damage award of $100,000 would be significant in a smaller county, it is not possible to determine the number of claims filed by first responders for wrongful discharge.
