Honorable Abel Herrero, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB517 by Moody (Relating to evidence or testimony given by certain witnesses in a criminal case based on the trafficking of persons.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Penal Code to allow parties to be required to provide evidence or to testify about a trafficking offense, but would prohibit the prosecution of or use of that evidence or testimony against the party who testifies except in instances of aggravated perjury and permits the conviction of a defendant based on that testimony.
Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
