The bill would allow the governing body of a private school to employ and appoint school marshals to make arrests and exercise the same authority as a peace officer.
The bill would require school districts or open-enrollment charter schools to disclose in writing whether any of their employees have been appointed as a school marshal if they receive a written request for this information by the parent or guardian of an enrolled student.
The bill has no direct fiscal implications for the operations of the Texas Education Agency. The Texas Department of Public Safety anticipates that any costs associated with the provisions of the bill can be absorbed within current agency resources.
