HB1040 by Paddie (Relating to the liability of certain sports officials and organizations.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code to remove the liability of sports officials who officiate, judge, or enforce contest rules within an official capacity at an athletic competition for civil damages, including personal injury, or other losses due to risks inherent to the competitive activity unless due to gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
