LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 23, 2015

TO:
Honorable Abel Herrero, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1181 by Shaheen (Relating to the maintenance of information entered into a fee record.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to make assessed criminal court costs uncollectible if the fee has been unpaid for ten years, the defendant is deceased or is serving a life sentence in prison for life or for life without parole if the criminal court in which the proceeding was held would make a finding for that purpose.

Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

According to Randall County District Clerk, Dallas County District Clerk, no impact is anticipated. The Amarillo Police Department reported no fiscal impact.
