FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 15, 2015

TO:
Honorable Kel Seliger, Chair, Senate Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1300 by Capriglione (Relating to eligibility requirements for admission of certain persons to educator preparation programs.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

This bill amends the Texas Education code related to the required qualifications of persons admitted to educator preparation programs (EPPs). The bill would require individuals admitted under the 10% rule to perform at a satisfactory level on a subject matter exam prior to admission to the EPP.

The bill would take effect on September 1, 2015.

Based on the analysis of the Texas Education Agency, Higher Education Coordinating Board, and university systems, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
