FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 21, 2015

TO:
Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1431 by King, Susan (Relating to the development of a career-oriented foreign language program that public schools may offer.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill amends the Education code related to the development of a career-oriented foreign language program that public schools may offer.

The bill would require the State Board of Education, in consultation with the commissioner of higher education and business and industry leaders, to develop an advanced language course in industry-related terminology that prepares students to communicate in a language other than English in a specific professional, business, or industry environment.

The Texas Education Agency indicates that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
