LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 8, 2015

TO:
Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1432 by Howard (Relating to optional fees on registration of vehicles in certain counties to fund transportation projects; authorizing a fee.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to permit a certain commissioner court to impose an additional fee for a vehicle registered in the county that would be sent to a certain regional mobility authority. The bill provides certain purposes the additional fees would be used. Under the provisions of the bill, a fee would be collected for a vehicle when other fees imposed are collected. The bill would require the Department of Motor Vehicles to adopt rules to administer registration for a vehicle being registered in the county imposing a fee.

Based on the analysis provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
