No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to permit a court, at the time of sentencing, to order a defendant to repay to a county the cost of legal services if the defendant becomes financially able to do so during the defendant's sentence. The bill would also permit courts to consider money deposited into the defendant's trust account administered by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for this repayment. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
