LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 29, 2015

TO:
Honorable Myra Crownover, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1724 by Sheffield (Relating to the establishment of a state plan for Streptococcus pneumoniae education and prevention.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 94A, Health and Safety Code, relating to the establishment of a state plan for Streptococcus pneumoniae education and prevention. The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) would be required to develop and update a state plan for Streptococcus pneumoniae education and prevention and update it at least every five years. The bill would require DSHS to seek input from stakeholder groups, including other health and human services agencies, the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) and the Employees Retirement System (ERS), in developing the plan. The plan is required to include health education, public awareness, and information on the agency's website about the prevention, treatment, and detection of diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae.  DSHS, TRS and ERS indicate that the provisions of the bill can be implemented within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
