Honorable Byron Cook, Chair, House Committee on State Affairs
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB1787 by Turner, Chris (Relating to the regulation of political contributions and expenditures.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend Election Code to require quarterly campaign finance reports to be filed with the Ethics Commission, instead of semi-annual reports. The bill would also amend the timeline that the Commission must make campaign finance reports available on the agency's website, from within two business days of filing to "as soon as practicable." Based on the LBB's analysis of the Ethics Commission, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
The bill would take effect January 1, 2016.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
