LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 6, 2015

TO:
Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2324 by Smithee (Relating to the designation of certain rest areas on Interstate Highway 27 in Hale County as the James E. "Pete" and Nelda Laney Safety Stops.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to design, construct, and erect markers designating certain rest areas on Interstate Highway 27 in Hale County as the James E. "Pete" and Nelda Laney Safety Stops, subject to Section 225.021 (c), Transportation Code.

Section 225.021 (c), Transportation Code, specifies that TxDOT is not required to design, construct, or erect the marker unless a grant or donation of funds is made to the department to cover the cost. Based on the information provided by TxDOT, it is assumed any duties associated with the implementation of the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
