Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Transportation
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB2574 by Johnson (Relating to increasing awareness of the danger of leaving a child in a hot motor vehicle.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code to require that the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) develop informational materials on the dangers of unattended children in closed vehicles in hot or sunny weather. DSHS would also be required to make the materials available on its website. The bill would also require a facility that provides childbirth services to provide a copy of the materials to a parent/guardian of each infant born at the facility. DSHS indicates that implementation of the bill by the Safe Riders Program at DSHS could be absorbed within current resources.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
