Honorable Byron Cook, Chair, House Committee on State Affairs
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB2643 by Blanco (Relating to parental leave for certain state employees.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend Government Code to allow employees who have been employed fewer than 12 months of service or who have worked fewer than 1,250 hours during the preceding 12-month period to take an additional 20 days of paid leave upon the birth of a natural child or the adoption by or foster care placement with the employee of a child younger than three years of age.
Based on the analysis provided by The University of Texas System, the State Auditor's Office, and the Office of the Attorney General, the Legislative Budget Board anticipates any costs associated with the passage of the bill would not be significant and could absorbed within existing resources at state agencies and institutions of higher education.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2015.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
