LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 28, 2015

TO:
Honorable Harold V. Dutton, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2651 by Moody (Relating to law enforcement agency investigations of certain reports of child abuse or neglect.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Family Code to require the Department of Family and Protective Services to notify local law enforcement agencies if a child who is the subject of a report of abuse or neglect is removed the child's home. The local law enforcement agency would be required to conduct its own investigation of the report of abuse or neglect.

DFPS does not anticipate any significant fiscal impacts as a result of complying with the provisions of the bill.

Local Government Impact

There would be costs to a local law enforcement agency; however, fiscal impact would vary depending on the number of investigations and the agency's resources.
