FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 29, 2015

TO:
Honorable Jodie Laubenberg, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2762 by Laubenberg (Relating to petitions prescribed by law outside of code.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Elections Code to require certain petitions to be filed the later date of 90 days after final passage of the ordinance or 90 days after publication. The bill would require a city secretary to verify the signatures of the petition and state the specific grounds invalidating any signature. If a petition is refiled, a city secretary may not invalidate the petition on the same grounds as previously found or due to the failure of posting certain information on its website. The bill would require a municipality to make certain information available on its website.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
