No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation and Health and Safety Codes to require the cancellation of a deceased individual's driver's license, personal identification certificate or election identification certificate not later than the fifth business day after the date the Department of Public Safety receives a copy of the individual's death certificate. It is assumed any costs associated with implementing the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

The bill would require local registrars to file with the commissioners court or the county auditor, as well as the Department of Public Safety, a copy of each death certificate filed with the local registrar during the preceding month within five business days. There may be administrative costs to local governmental entities; however, the fiscal implication is not anticipated to be significant.
