No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Local Government Code to permit certain municipalities to order an election to impose, amend or repeal municipal term limits. The bill provides language requirements of the ballot at an election. The bill would not apply to a term that a member of a government body was serving or was elected before the date the election was held.
Local Government Impact
There would be a fiscal impact to local governments who held an election; however, those costs would vary by municipality and are not anticipated to be significant.
Based on costs reported to the Secretary of State in 2014 by a sampling of counties, municipalities, and special districts, the average cost incurred by a local governmental entity for an election held is $1.70 per registered voter.
