LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 3, 2015

TO:
Honorable Jodie Laubenberg, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3379 by Fallon (Relating to the early voting period.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Election Code to modify the time early voting by personal appearance would begin. The bill would require an election, ordered by a city, to have early voting by personal appearance at the main early voting polling place conducted for at least 12 hours one day. The bill would amend the weekend early voting by personal appearance at the main early voting polling place for certain elections.

The bill would repeal Section 85.001 (b) and Section 85.001 (e), Election Code.

Local Government Impact

The costs associated with the provisions of the bill cannot be determined. Due to reduction in early voting by personal appearance under the provisions of the bill, local entities may have to open more polling locations to accommodate voting. The costs associated with the bill would depend on the number of voters in a jurisdiction and the resources of each local entity.

The City of Corpus Christi and Webb County reported no significant fiscal impact is anticipated.
