LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 5, 2015

TO:
Honorable John Zerwas, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3524 by Huberty (Relating to exemptions for disabled peace officers from payment of tuition and fees at public institutions of higher education.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill amends statute as it relates to exemptions for disabled peace officers from the payment of tuition and fees at public institutions of higher education by making the exemption mandatory instead of permissive and clarifying which fees would be covered by the exemption. Based on information provided by the Higher Education Coordinating Board and institutions of higher education, most institutions currently honor the exemption. Therefore the impact to institutions of higher education in terms of foregone tuition, as well as any impact tied to formula funding, would be minimal.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
