No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Property Code relating to suits for wrongful eviction. The bill would establish a process to authorize damages for mental anguish and exemplary damages for claimants who could establish that they were wrongfully evicted from property occupied under an unexpired written lease and that the owner of the property could not have prevailed in a legal eviction action.
The Office of Court Administration reported no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated.
