Honorable Myra Crownover, Chair, House Committee on Public Health
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB4062 by Coleman (Relating to the allocation of funds for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend Health and Safety Code to require the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to spend a minimum of 25 percent of funds available in the General Revenue-Dedicated Account No. 5136 Cancer Prevention and Research Fund on cancer prevention awards. Health and Safety Code, Sec. 102.203(e) limits cancer prevention and control awards by CPRIT to 10 percent of the total awarded each year. It is unclear whether the changes from the bill would precede the existing statutory limitation. However, any costs associated with implementing the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2015.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
