FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 15, 2015

TO:
Honorable Jimmie Don Aycock, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB107 by Whitmire (Relating to the designation of campus behavior coordinators to serve at public school campuses and issues to be considered when removing a student from class.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code to designate campus behavior coordinators to serve at public school campuses as the primary individual responsible for maintaining student discipline and addressing issues related to removing a student from class.

The bill would establish the responsibilities of the campus behavior coordinator which includes providing notification to the parent or guardian if a student was removed from class and placed in an alternative setting or taken into custody by law enforcement.

Local Government Impact

School districts may incur some costs to train the campus behavior coordinator in appropriate and alternative disciplinary management techniques. School districts may also incur costs associated with providing the required notifications. These costs would vary by school district.
